PBN is a particular material of ceramics. It’s sedimentary the process just like ”Snowing” — hexagon-shaped PBN by dropping on graphite material in parallel till to a certain thickness. After cooling, it becomes the PBN ceramic component.  The PBN ceramics are widely used to make VGF crucibles, LEC crucibles, MBE crucibles, Thermal Insulation Board, Synthetic Boat, PBN coated products for making single-crystal from GaAs.

What is Dielectric Ceramic?

Dielectric ceramic is a kind of ceramic material which resistivity is greater than 108Ω∙m, and can withstand the strong electric field without breakdown. The dielectric material is an insulator, putting more emphasis on its polarization characteristics. According to the characters of its dielectric properties can be divided into electrical insulating ceramics, ceramic capacitor, piezoelectric and ferroelectric ceramics. They are usually expressed by volume resistivity, dielectric constant, and dielectric loss.

What is volume resistivity?
The resistance of material per cubic volume, the higher the volume resistivity, materials for electrical insulation components of the higher efficiency.

What is a dielectric constant?
It is used to measure an insulator to store electrical energy performance, it is two pieces of the metal plate with insulation materials as the medium compared with air as medium or vacuum, the ratio of the capacitance.

What is dielectric loss?
Dielectric loss refers to the dielectric under the effect of the alternating electric field, the consumption of electricity per unit time.

Taking the insulating ceramic as an example, we will introduce its properties, classification, and application to better understand it.

Insulation material is not conductive, requiring high resistivity as far as possible. To become an excellent insulating ceramics, must have the following properties:

  • Volume resistivity: ≥1012 Ω∙cm
  • Relative dielectric constant ≤ 30
  • Good thermal conductivity, close to conductor material thermal expansion coefficient, heat resistance, high strength, and chemical stability

Classification of insulating ceramic:

  • The oxide, such as Si02, A120, etc
  • The non-oxide, such as Si3N4, BN, AIN, etc
  • Single crystal insulating ceramics, such as silicon, synthetic mica (the floorboard of the layered structure of aluminum silicate), spinel, synthetic sapphire, etc.

The application of the insulating ceramic:

  • High-performance ceramic insulator which can withstand the pressure of more than 500 keV used in extra-high-voltage power transmission.
  • Ceramic spark plugs used for automobiles, ceramic ignition needles used for gas stoves
  • The substrate used for integrated circuits and packaging materials
  • Ceramic insulating tubes are used for electrical and electronic.

PBN-PG Heaters

Pyrolytic graphite (PG) is placed on the surface of PBN plates by the CVD method as a conductor and heater. And the PG heating element could be covered by PBN again. As both PG and PBN are extremely pure (99.99% or even higher) and very stable in a vacuum or inert atmosphere, the PBN-PG heating element could be very durable and keep the chamber clean. It could be heated to ultra-high 1600°C for a very short time without emission of any gas component. These heating elements are ideal products for the semiconductor industry and applications that require high temperature, high vacuum, and high purity.

Silicon nitride igniters are normally rectangular in shape. These igniters have a lot of operation zone up to 1000 degrees C. and a cold zone in the contact area. The encapsulated terminal can prevent short circuits caused by conductive contamination. They can be operated with or without a controller. Silicon nitride igniters have several times the durability that of alumina ceramic igniter.

Dimension power and input voltage are customizable according to your requirement.

Silicon Nitride igniter can heat up to 800 to 1000 degrees within tens of seconds. The max temperature is 1200 degrees C. Silicon Nitride ceramic can sustain corrosion of melting metals. With proper installation and igniting process, the igniter can use for several years.

How to make boron nitride ceramic part?

When we make boron nitride ceramic part, generally we make big billet, our billet max size is 420 * 430 * 220 mm, and then machine it as other small part or customized shape part. In the producing process, we separated powder with graphite mould by graphite paper to make sure there is no reaction between them.

Boron Nitride is easy to machine it, so we can machine it by common tool and we machine it without water or other liquid. We also have precision CNC engraving and milling machine to make high precision part. Generally the best tolerance we make is +/-0.03 mm (small part) or +/-0.05 mm for bigger part.

Our BN part Produce process is as belows: Powder granulation – Put Powder in the graphite mould–Prepare Dry – Hot Press with sintering-Machine.

In the sintering process, the product is Sintering together with hot pressing. Our sintering furnace is pressing is from both the top an bottom that can make the product is more dense and uniform to make sure the quality, some other factory sintering furnace is just pressing from one side only. Our factory total have 9 sets sintering furnace and it was designed by our own engineer who are from the famous university. Our 99% BN ceramic part sintering temperature is 2000℃ and the compound boron nitride sintering temperature is 1850℃。

Materials:
By operating temperature, due to variable alumina, it is further divided into 99.5 (corundum), 99 (corundum), 95 (corundum), 85 (alumina porcelain), 75 (mullite porcelain), for materials above, the more the alumina, the higher the operating temperature, the maximum aluminum content vertical use at 1710°C,the minimum aluminum use at 1100°C.

Application:
Mainly used for protection of thermometric elements, to isolate them from outside and reduce or prevent them being corroded, oxidized, or damaged during use.

Stock size of protective tube:
Outer diameter 4mm to 30mm, maximum length 1600mm, wall thickness by dimension scale of product 0.5mm to 4mm.

How to use ?
During use, the thermometric element is insulated well put into the protective tube, and then the open end and the couple ends are sealed with high-temperature clay. When in measurement, the sealed end is inserted into the temperature measuring zone, and it is best to prevent shock cooling or heating from damaging the protective tube during use.

A machinable ceramic, Boron Nitride (BN) can be machined into complex parts. After machining, the parts are ready to use without additional heat treatment or firing operations. BN solid parts are mainly used to variously of the super-high temperature of vacuum furnace, metal or glass melting crucible and nozzles. Boron Nitride is most commonly produced as a hot pressed solid which orients during pressing, yielding a hexagonal and platy crystal structure. The resulting material properties are anisotropic, relative to the pressing direction. In fact, the material properties can vary significantly, relative to the direction of pressing and the grade of material.
